As we create stories we also continually look for ways to utilize the game mechanics of Wurm to both support the story and provide unique experiences. For this reason we are going to try something unexpected and maybe a bit radical on Ardmagh. We will implement tower chaining.
This feature is usually used in pvp to claim land for your kingdom. Here is how it functions.
Each guard tower creates an aura or claims an area of protection. Each new tower expands the area, but to build a new guard tower it must be within the aura of the previous tower. Also all deeds must be placed within the aura of a tower.
For the purposes of the story on Ardmagh the deed fees represent payments for background effects such as NPC contributions like trade, groundskeepers and guards. The tower chaining we hope will add to the protection of these npc's, new players and facilitate the progress of the players rebuilding their parts of the kingdom that was lost.
In consideration for the extra effort that will go into placing deeds (and of course to promote RP), we will offer each deed one gm placed npc to represent the background npc's in a way that fits your character story. The GM's will place the one NPC once the player has a permanent location for it. Unless the player provides clothing, the npc will wear starting clothing.
Players will still be able to build off deed.
However, we know that this is a change from what everyone is accustomed to on pve servers. So we are asking for feedback from the players as we play test.
After about 3 months we will evaluate how things are going and determine whether to keep the change for the remainder of Ardmagh or not.
This channel is the place for everything tower related such as questions, comments, praise, complaints, and planning.
I've never come across this in wurm ( yet) ... it sounds like a really interesting concept. Looking forward to trying it out.
